Sunday August 25 - The Life Giving God

Sunday August 18 - The Fulfilling God

Welcome to St Luke’s this morning. Today we are focusing on the theme ‘Is God Life-giving?’

Christian author, David Foster Wallace, once said “Worship your own body and beauty and sexual allure and you will always feel ugly,
and when time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally plant you.” Where can hope and purpose be found that is truly life-giving?
This is the sixth in a seven part series called “Life Explored.” The series opens up big questions about God and invites you to wonder, to question, to discuss and even debate. If you are visiting today or come as a guest we hope you find the service helpful. Our associate minister, Mark Simon (photo on the right) will be leading the service and introducing a short film and a recorded Bible talk from the makers of Life Explored. We will also include times of singing, praying in the service. Feel free to participate in as much as you want or just to sit and listen.
If you would like to follow up anything in the film, or would like someone to pray with you, please speak with our associate minister, Mark after the service. You are warmly invited to stay for morning tea and to continue discussions sparked by the film and talk.

The series has been created to help people think about the Christian
faith. It is a relaxed and thought-provoking series for anyone who wants to find meaning and contentment in life.

Unsure about church? Its a great time to come along and get questions answered.

What’s the big idea of Life Explored?

We all want to be happy. Why is lasting happiness so hard to find? Life Explored is an exposé of the little gods that promise us so much happiness, yet deliver so little. As it explores the Bible story (creation, fall, redemption, new creation), Life Explored shows how our deepest desires for happiness can only be satisfied in one person, Jesus Christ. The best gift God can give us is himself.

Life Explored is an informal and relaxed seven week course. Its for anyone who wants to find contentment and happiness in life. Its run by ordinary Christian people local to you and is completely free. You don't need to know anything about the Bible, and you won't be asked to pray or sing. You can ask any question you like, or you can just sit and listen. Whoever you are, whatever you're thinking Life Explored is a place for you to discover the greatest gift in the Universe.

Life Explored has been designed to speak powerfully to those who don’t consider themselves to be religious and have never read the Bible.

But it will also provoke good discussions among followers of Christ, too.

Life Explored tells six original stories that beautifully articulate and explore our inherent longing for more.

They provide an outstretched hand to begin discovering what it means to trust in Jesus and are a tool to engage with the people around us on themes of purpose, meaning and faith.
