An Advent Reflection - Healthy and Privileged: Seeing Greater Joy
Mary, the mother of Jesus, gave birth in difficult circumstances. This would have involved some very real risks. No matter where or when, the birth of a child is usually a source of great joy.
Jesus' birth was celebrated in Heaven and on earth, and has been a source of wonder and encouragement down the ages.
The birth of children brings extraordinary joy. What is the same/different about the birth of Christ?
What do you find the most joyous part of Christmas?
How does joy differ from happiness or pleasure? In your experience, do Christians express the joy of their faith? Why/Why not?
"Do not be afraid; for see I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah, the Lord" Luke 2: 10-11
Father, thank you for knowing what we need in both the large and small ways. Thank you for being a sure foundation and also offering new mercies each morning. Holy Spirit, please help us to remember that we are yours, we are not alone, and there is no need to fear. Please help that awareness to impact how we see ourselves and how we treat others. We love you, God. In your Son’s name we pray.
