St Luke's Day Special Service October 21

HAPPY 111th BIRTHDAY  for St Luke's Anglican Church, Vermont!

St Luke’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday October 21. Peter MacPherson, our Senior Minister, will conduct interviews in the service instead of a straight sermon. The question for interviewees to answer is “During my time at St Luke’s what is something I can thank God for?”

Please put this date in your diary and come along for our 9.30 service followed by lunch together. During the service there will be an opportunity to give thanks for and testimony to the role and ministry of St Luke’s in our lives. Please feel free to share with others blessings received in your life and the life of our community as result of the ministries here at St Luke’s.

A special welcome to any former members! We are delighted to have you worship with us.

A lunch at church will follow the service.

Please sign up for the lunch by contacting the church office via email : office@stlukesvermont.org.au or by phone: 9873 1375.

This will help with organising catering for the day.

Special Guest Preacher Sunday October 28 2018

On Sunday October 28 our guest preacher will be David Spitteler from The Asylum Seekers Centre. This issue has been in the news again recently so we look forward to hearing from David.

Rev Brian Westaway will lead the service and David will preach on the topic  -Sight for the Blind -taken from  Mark 10:46-52

All are welcome!

David Spitteler, facilitator of the centre, spends much of his time at public speaking engagements at churches and community venues all over Australia.  He shares his experiences working with refugees and relates his work at the Asylum Seekers Centre to the week’s readings.

Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

The Asylum Seeker Centre was started in 1997 by David Spitteler.

The Centre assists Asylum Seekers (on-shore applicants for refugee status) with material aid of food packs, gift vouchers, metcards, and phonecards.

Asylum seekers and refugees are also assisted with blankets, clothing, computers, crockery, cutler, doonas, furniture, sheets, towels, and other basic necessities so often taken for granted.
